Mission Statement

The Dominican Ecclesial Institute (D+E+I) seeks to promote Catholic intellectual life for the good of the Church, in the tradition of the Dominican Order through:

  • Educational Programs of lectures, classes, and series, on Theology and Ministry.
  • Public Discourse about Religion and Culture with the University, the state, and the Church in New Mexico.
  • Research and Writing on Catholic issues, in association with professional organizations and critical scholarship.

The Dominican Tradition
“Meeting people where they are
to help them get to where they want to be."

The Dominican Province of St. Albert the Great, together with the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, and the Priory and laity of the Aquinas Newman Center began the Dominican Ecclesial Institute (D+E+I) in 1996, recognizing a need for excellent and intellectual formation of adult Catholics in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Originally staffed with Dominican Friars, D+E+I developed and presented talks and facilitated discussions throughout the Archdiocese of Santa Fe; established the Catholic Business Forum to give professionals a chance to meet and discuss how their faith can influence their work; created the annual Lumen Awards to recognize catechists and volunteers who advance the cause of adult formation in their communities; and sponsored D+E+I Dialogues, giving the community a chance to gain new perspectives on their faith and actions by working with nationally-recognized thought leaders.
