DISCUSSIONS & PRESENTATIONS

D+E+I Discussions and Presentations are designed to assist adults in learning more about thier faith in order to deepen their understanding og God's presence in thier lives. They are developed to provide a basic understanding of the Catholic faith while engaging adult learners in active and participatory discussions. It is our experience that once adults experience new perspectives on their faith, they will want to continue to be nourished.

D+E+I Discussions and Presentations are founded in St. Dominic's preference of preaching over teaching. Their goal is not to pass on knowledge as much as it is to transform lives. They encourage questions and try to provide answers; They provide historical background while stressing faith as a living part daily life; they challenge participapants to reassess their faith in order to experience God more deeply.

D+E+I Discussions and Presentations are completely customizable for groups of all sizes. We try to develop program based on both the venue and needs of the community. Programs developed for parishes and community centers tend to be more lecture oriented while presentations for small faith communities and home settings tend to lean towards facilitated discussion.

With the recent transition of leadership, D+E+I has not been as active in scheduling programs in the parishes. In the upcoming months, we will once again be scheduling programs in local parishes and community centers and will publish those dates as they become finalized.

Themes and topics listed on the right are meant to be a merely a sampler of what types of subjects are available for your group. Discussion and Presentations gernally last 1 to 2 hours including time or questions.

If you would like to schedule a program for your community or home, please contact the D+E+I office so that we can discuss your needs.

SCRIPTURE
Old Testament — While far to epic to be covered in single sessions, D+E+I offers sessions on the history, context, and primary themes of the Old Testament books.
Bread of Life Discourse — This Summer, the Bread of Life Discourse will be proclaimed in our liturgy. Our programs can explore its imagery and movement as Christ tries to share his presence and mission with the crowd.
St. Mark — Whether it is an overview of his Gospel, an exploration of the Markan Secret, or a theological summary of Mark and his community, D+E+I can offer programs on this evangelist as our Church continues to proclaim his Gospel on Sundays.
The Synoptic Gospels —The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are both similar and unique. D+E+I can offer programs which compare and contrast, provide historical context, or use them to descibe the years of Christ's adult ministry.
Paul and His Letters — Paul is the New Testament’s greatest contributor but who was he and why did he found so many of the early Christian communities remains an unknown to many people. D+E+I can discuss Paul's life and ministry or any of his letters.

SPIRITUALITY
Images of God
— Our understanding and image of God forms the core of our faith and our lives. D+E+I can offer a variety of sessions which help participants explore and reflect on what God means to them.
Images of Christ — There are a myriad of Christological titles describing who Christ was to our world and our faith. D+E+I can help participants prayerfully explore various titles to find those which resonate within them.

SACRAMENTS
Theology through Time — Available for Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation, these sessions trace the major theological understandings of the sacrament through the history of the church to help adults better understand the journey from first century Galilee to twenty-first century Albuquerque.
The Movement of Mass — The Sacred Liturgy has an innate movement and flow from the intentionality of arriving to being sent forth to do God's will. D+E+I offers a variety of programs which explore this movement in its entirety or in the summ of its parts.
Reconciliation: From Punitive to Loving — Reconciliation is one of the church’s most misunderstood sacraments and one of it’s greatest treasures. This session explores both the confusion and the giftedness of this sacrament as it relates to the individual’s relationship with God, with self, and with neighbor. This is a great session to reacquaint adults with this wonderful ritual of God’s love.
